Struggle for Life - Dragonfly and a Spider

On a beautiful winter morning an unfortunate dragonfly gets trapped in a spider web.




Of course the little owner of the web is watching it a few inches away.
I thought it would immediately attack. No, it didn't. probably might
have waited for dragonfly to loose its energy while trying to get out of it ?




No attempts by the dragonfly to get out either ! I thought the spider
is not interested in this huge prey. But I was wrong ! After some time
the spider slowly approaches the dragonfly and starts tieing some crucial points.






No attempts by dragonfly to escape however. It looks like the spider was
tieing some crucial knots without touching the dragonfly. Once all knots
are in place I think the spider is ready to deliver a lethal dose ! I could
only witness some high frequency movement but the camera freezed some moments of struggle.







Is dragonfly fighting a lost battle ? Looks like it lost out ?


Or is it ? Another round of struggle for escaping out of lethal dose and from the web



Looks like the spider needs some rest now. It appeared to stay away for a while.
Dragonfly is still alive. Escaping from the spider's clutches is
indeed a possibility if the dragonfly can break the remaining two strands of web.



But the spider the arrives again !




Did the dragonfly escape ? survive ? Your guess ? Micro battles like this goes on in nature every second which we hardly notice.
Probably it needs a high speed camera (with hundreds/thousands fps) to
find out what happens during those high frequency struggles.
