Short Biography

Welcome to Nature Lyrics ! My name is Ganesh H Shankar (aka Ganesh HS). I live in Bangalore, India. I was born and brought-up in a small beautiful village closer to both Arabian sea and Western Ghats (ever green rain forest mountain ranges in India). So my love for nature and wildlife is by birth. I started photography with a an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera in 1994. More than photography I was enjoying nature and capturing some images of it. Later a friend of mine lured me into nature photography using an SLR camera. My serious journey as a nature photographer started from 1998 and during last several years I have learnt a lot in terms of photo equipement buying itself !! I strive very hard in the field to create unique and artistic compositions and I am not bound by rules of making images.

Nature Lyrics is collection of some of my images of wildlife and nature. Nature photography may have several purposes ranging from research, documentation to creation of aesthetic art. My interest is in creating some unique and artistic imagery and is not in making collection of images of different birds or mammals. I often try to express my visions with an emphasis on light and space in my compositions. I am very serious about standards of my work and welfare of my subjects and ethics. I keep setting and pushing bar for myself very high.

Some Recognitions

Whenever I find time I participate in nature photography forums and nature photography contests. Some of my works have been published in national and international books, magazines and online forums. I have also won a few awards/recognitions in well known nature photography competitions. Here are a few.

This image above won thrid place in Rare Birds Internation photo contest and a few of my images got published in Rare Birds Year Book 2008

I have also published some of my views on nature photography as articles in well known online nature photography forums. Here is one such. You can read about such articles in my articles section. Some of my images have been exhibited in international exhibitions. Here is one such exhibition - "Enadangered" conducted by Cambridge Conservation Forum.

Closing note

All my images are made in a completely ethical way - subject's welfare comes first. Most of the images here are full frame and are capable of producing fine, large prints. I plan to sell some of the fine images as museum grade fine art prints. You may visit this link to know which images are available as fine art prints on which paper/canvas. I use quality equipments ranging from 12-24mm lens to 600mm f4 lens using various professional SLR and digital SLR cameras, Gitzo 1500/GT5540LS tripod, Arca-Swiss B1 and Wimberley heads and using right techniques. I also use a large format 4x5 view camera occasionally to make landscapes.
