Just to confirm that this is a possibly wide-spread issue, I encountered this same problem with my 5-month old d700 just yesterday. Had a model in the studio for an illustration and got the "card full" message. Not surprised as I had remnants of several shoots on there. Popped in another card..."full"...then another...and another. ReallY? Formatted multiple times, removed batt, etc. No go. Started to wrap up with my d7000 but ended up borrowing a coworker's 700 to finish the shoot.

Googled the issue this morning and found the solution outlined above and PRESTO, the issue is resolved - albeit temporarily, I'm guessing.

I'm running firmware 1.02 which appears to still be the most current version.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! I just found this blog by chance searching for this problem and you fixed the problem. My camera just shut down during a wedding shoot and I had to resort to the back up. This just saved us a big headache! Also--the new firmware doesn't fix the problem. We posted your blog info onto photo.net where there was a recent discussion of the problem. I wish I would have seen this on Saturday when I was googling this on my iphone at the wedding.

Thank you so much again--totally saved us!

Good News - Based on a suggestion from another forum I tried creating a new folder and formatting. It worked !! If any of you see this issue here is a workaround -

1. Go to "Shooting Menu" ("MENU" butten and then select "Shooting menu" )
2. Select "Active Folder" menu option.
3. Select "New Folder Number"
4. Just bump up the counter
5. Press OK.
6. Go to "Setup Menu"
7. Format the card !!

Hope Nikon will fix this issue in their next firmware release. I am unable to reproduce the problem now with the new 16GB card too. May be it happens sometimes..

Hi Ganesh, Just to eliminate more options was wondering the cards you have how it would work on a different D700 to see if it reads properly. May be in a Nikon service center they can try it on a different D700.

Sad but true! Not the song but the post. I admired D700 big time. No, am not repenting because am speaking in past tense but Nikon is GOD to me. I am damn sure they will fix this with a firmware upgrade!

Good luck Ganesh!

Regards

Will, thanks for your suggestions. Looks like a visit to Nikon support center in due. No moisture, I stuff my Lowepro bag with lots of silica gel packs and the place where I live humidity is not a issue. From my experience of writing software/firmware for living (not for camera though) I am fairly certain this is a software bug. I hope Nikon will have a work around. I just want to get my camera restored to factory setting using a "hard reset". Hope Nikon support will have a way to get that done...

Ganesh, Sorry to hear that resetting didn\'t help - I hoped (for your sake) some bug attached itself to your preferences. I also did some searching and didn\'t find anyone else sharing your issue. I hope Nikon steps up for you. I recently sent in my SB-600 for repair and had it back in 8 days! Hopefully they\'ll do the same for you. By any chance, could there be moisture in the camera body?
